Dear People of Belgium,
We wanted you to know that far away on the West Coast of Canada our family is praying for you and morning your loss.
We have not yet had the honour of visiting your beautiful country but when we imagine doing so we envision a joyful and friendly place full of history and blended cultures. In our minds, we savour the smell of chocolate and waffles. We dream of sparkling diamonds and colourful tapestries. We imagine a strong, multilingual, multicultural, and democratic nation much like our own.
We know that you are hurting and grieving and we wanted to let you know we stand in solidarity with you against this terrible cancer of terrorism. We are mindful of your strength and know that you have defeated darkness before.
You will also overcome this brutality.
We pray you know that genuine love and compassion is pouring out for you from around this world and that you find some comfort in that knowing.
God bless you all and may peace be with you.
